The Valtortian Editorial Center (CEV) is an Italian publishing house specializing in the publication, distribution, and promotion of the writings of the Catholic mystic Maria Valtorta. Founded in 1985 and based in Isola del Liri, in Italy, it is the historic and official publisher of her entire work[1].
History
The Valtortian Editorial Center was created in 1985 at the initiative of Emilio Pisani, son of Michele Pisani, the first publisher of Maria Valtorta's works after the Second World War. The foundation of the CEV continues the editorial work undertaken since the 1950s to ensure stable and structured dissemination of Valtortian writings[1].
The legal structure of the organization has evolved over time: initially formed as a general partnership (snc), it later became a limited liability company (srl). The CEV statutes from the outset provided for the possibility of promoting the creation of bodies intended to preserve and enhance the intellectual and material heritage of Maria Valtorta, a vision that was realized through the later creation of the Maria Valtorta Heritage Foundation[2].
Mission and Objectives
According to its founding documents, the Mission of the Valtortian Editorial Center is structured around several main axes:
- to deepen and disseminate knowledge about the person, writings, and thought of Maria Valtorta;
- to conduct historical and documentary research concerning her life and work;
- to gather testimonies, archives, and objects related to the author;
- to protect her name and memory in cultural and publishing fields;
- to print, publish, and distribute her works in Italian and other languages;
- to promote religious and biblical education in the spirit of Catholic tradition.
Publishing Activities
The primary activity of the Valtortian Editorial Center is to edit and distribute the complete writings of Maria Valtorta. Its catalogue notably includes:
- the major work titled The Gospel as It Was Revealed to Me, published in several volumes;
- the Quaderni (Notebooks) gathering the author's original manuscripts;
- collections of letters, autobiographical writings, and spiritual texts;
- studies, commentaries, and complementary works intended to accompany the reading of her works.
In addition to paper editions, the CEV also offers digital versions (ebooks) and audiobooks, available through its official online bookstore[3].
Copyright Status
The Valtortian Editorial Center acts as the publisher and distributor of Maria Valtorta's works. However, the author's copyright and intellectual property no longer directly belong to the CEV. These have been transferred to the Maria Valtorta Heritage Foundation, which today holds legal ownership and institutional guardianship[4].
In this context, the CEV serves as the reference publisher and editorial partner of the Foundation. It ensures the physical production of the books, their commercial distribution, and coordinates international translations, while the Foundation oversees the preservation of original manuscripts, the legal protection of the work, and the safeguarding of the cultural heritage linked to Maria Valtorta.
