Future

Prophecies contained in the Holy Scriptures reveal to us what must happen, and what the kingdom of God will be. Desiring to know the Future is a trap, and no one knows it except God and the one to whom He wishes to reveal it.

In "The Gospel As It Was Revealed to Me"

  • It is useless to know the Future, or to Believe that one knows it, if one then has no means to change the prophesied Future. There is only one way: to pray to the Father and Lord so that His mercy may help us. Truly I tell you that a trusting prayer can change a punishment into a blessing.[1]
  • Jesus comforts Peter: "You too are subjected to an hour of weariness... The continuous hammering of persecution Against your Master tires you. And finally — and you do not know that it is not you, but that it is the Tempter — you listen to a voice that whispers to you: 'And tomorrow? What will tomorrow be... ?'"[2]
  • Only God knows the Future: "The Future is 'present' only in the divine Thought. It is foolishness among those who are not raised by Our Will to claim to make prophecies and revelations. And God contradicts them and strikes them because only One can say: 'I am' and say: 'I see' and say 'I know'."[3]

In the Notebooks

  • Catechesis of May 31, 1943: "Regarding the Future... What do you want to know, poor Soul?! You are not far from the truth, and this morning you touched it... But would you have the courage to fully recognize it? Thank my mercy which, for now, largely conceals it from you. Pray."[4]
  • Catechesis of June 15, 1943: Securing one's Future is a bad reason to enter Religious life: "They are alone, poor, fearful of life, without a trade or profession that assures them a Future. They withdraw. They take God's house for a hotel where they will be lodged and fed. They secure their Future."[5]
  • Catechesis of September 7, 1943: The Virgin Mary suffered from knowledge of the Future: "United with the Spirit of wisdom, her mind had the revelation of the Future that was reserved for her creature, and from then on, there was no more joy for Mary in the usual sense of the word."[6]
  • Catechesis of September 11, 1943: The poison of desire to know the Future: "It is the ancient poison. Man is, and has always been, guilty of unhealthy curiosities and sacrilegious profanations. He wants to push his inquiry into regions that divine wisdom keeps veiled in mystery, not out of jealousy of power, but out of foresight of love. Woe to the human being if he knew all about the Future and the secrets of the universe! You would no longer have Peace spiritual nor natural Peace. Leave the Future to God, creator and dispenser of time, and leave virgin those zones of the universe whose possession would give you weapons to always more disturb your existence as individuals and spirits."[7]
  • Catechesis of January 10, 1944: The useful part of the Future is already revealed to us: "There is no other God than us: one and triune. There is no other Religion than ours, centuries old. There is no other Future, on earth or beyond, than what the Sacred Books say about it. All the rest is lies meant to be covered with shame by the One who is Justice and Truth."[8]
