John Antipatrides

From Wiki Maria Valtorta

This Sanhedrist nicknamed "the Antipas of Antipatris," was the favorite of Herod the Great. He joined the plot that Chouza was hatching to have Jesus crowned king instead of Herod Antipas.[1]

He is found with the entire Sanhedrin at the funeral of Lazarus.[2]

Character and Appearance[edit | edit source]

Rich, old and powerful, he is the owner of the entire "valley of Gahas." The valley of Gaach, located 15 km southwest of Shechem, is the valley that was given to Joshua himself during the division of the Promised Land and where he was buried.

His Name[edit | edit source]

Yohanân means "the Lord has shown Grace, has been favorable." Historical reference: a fairly common first name among figures of the Old Testament without any one standing out particularly.

Where is he mentioned in the work?[edit | edit source]

Learn More About This Character[edit | edit source]

It is probably not him who is spoken of in the Acts of the Apostles recounting the appearance of Peter and John:
"There were Annas the high priest, Caiphas (Joseph), the High Priest, John, Alexander, and all the members of the families of the chief priests."[3]
John Antipas, the only one by that name in the Sanhedrin, seems too old and marginalized. It is possible that the Acts of the Apostles are instead referring to Jonathan ben Annas, the son of Annas and future High Priest.
