Center of an important civilization encountered by the Israelites when they invaded Canaan. Joshua captured it[1] and it was given to Manasseh. Solomon made it one of his fortified cities where he housed his horses and chariots[2]. A group of stables, capable of holding up to 450 horses, has been discovered there. Josiah died there[3]. In Zechariah, it is called in Hebrew Megiddo, which reappears in the Apocalypse under the name Harmagedon[4], from the Hebrew "mountain of Megiddo".
