Samuel of Bethlehem in Judah, the shepherd

One of the twelve shepherds of the Nativity. He was hired by Zacharias (the father of John the Baptist) to serve him after the massacre of the innocents.

Death of old age at the time of the Public Life of Jesus. He was buried in Hebron.

Samuel or Chemouel, means "Heard by God". Historical reference: the great prophet and last of the judges whom Elqana miraculously had late following the supplication of his wife Anne to God.
