Divorce
God created marriage, but not divorce which is the consequence of sin. With the restoration of grace in man through the Passion of Christ, the Lord definitively condemns divorce.
In "The Gospel as It Was Revealed to Me"
- If, because of the hardness of your hearts, Moses permitted you divorce, it was to prevent immoral relationships and concubinage which are abhorrent to God.[1]
- It was also said: Whoever divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce (Matthew 5:31).[2]
- We wanted to know if it is permitted for a man to repudiate his own wife for any reason. (Matthew 19:1-12 – Mark 10:1-12) – Gadara - [3]
- These children innocent, already disturbed, grieved too early by the atmosphere of the domestic home that has lost its serenity, its justice, they have their rights, over the mother, over the father, over the comfort of a home where, if one love has sunk, the other remains vigilant to watch over them.[4]
- The miracle of divorce avoided thanks to the persistent prayer of the parents followed by the parable of the unjust judge.[5]
- I let him go... without trying to hold him back... Deep down, I was grateful to him one last time for his departure... I will not seek him out. Moreover, when was he ever a companion to me?[6] (The Roman Valeria abandoned by her husband).
- Divorce is legal prostitution, which puts man and woman in a position to commit sins of lust. The divorced woman rarely remains a widow of a living man, and a faithful widow. The divorced man never remains faithful to the first marriage.[7]
- And I also tell you truly that no pressure should make your authority bow when you say: "This is not permitted" to the one who wants to enter new marriages before one of the spouses has died.[8]
In fundamental Christian texts
In the Bible
- Suppose a man marries a woman, but one day she no longer pleases him because he finds something to accuse her of. Then he writes a certificate of divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house.[9]
- It was also said: Whoever divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce. But I tell you: anyone who divorces his wife, except for unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.[10] (Jesus)
