Peter walking on the Waters, then Doubt - James Tissot - Brooklyn Museum.

Doubt originates from the fear of being wrong. But God deceives no one, which is why Doubt of him is a fault. Faced with Doubt, one must pray to ask for more faith.

In "The Gospel as it was revealed to me"

    • The deadly danger of Doubt: During the Passion of Joseph who believes himself betrayed by Mary whom he sees pregnant upon returning from Elizabeth and Zacharias (Visitation): The Virgin says: "Who can tell my struggle against the Discouragement that sought to overwhelm me to persuade me that I had hoped in vain in the Lord? Oh! I believe it was a rage of Satan! I felt Doubt seize me by the shoulders and extend its tentacles to imprison my Soul and stop it in its prayer. Doubt, so dangerous, deadly to the spirit. Deadly because it is actually the first attack of the illness called 'despair' and Against which The Spirit must react with all its strength to avoid witnessing its Soul perish and lose God."[1]
    • Jesus says to Peter who, like him, walks on the Waters, then Doubt, panic and sinks: "Man of little faith. Why did you doubt Me?"[2]
    • For you who believe in Me, there is another battle waiting for you. Several battles. The battle Against Doubt, Against the words that will be told to you, Against the persecutions. Resist Doubt. I do not lie. I am the One spoken of by the prophets. Like the mother of John a moment ago, raise the memory of what I have done for you, and say: "Such are the works of God. He has left them to us as a memory, a Confirmation, an aid to To Believe and to Believe precisely at this hour." Struggle and you will overcome the Doubt which strangles the breathing of the Soul. Struggle Against the words that will be told to you. Recall the prophets and my works, and answer hostile words with the prophets and with the miracles you have seen me perform. Do not be afraid and do not be ungrateful out of fear, by silencing the miracles I have done for you (...)[3]
    • Martha, shaken by the death of Lazarus, Doubts that Jesus is the Truth. Mary of Magdala (Magdalene) her sister, truly at her wit's end, does not know what to answer and weeps.[4]

    In fundamental Christian texts

    In the Bible

They spoke ill of God by asking the question: "Is God really capable of giving us a meal in the desert? True, he struck the rock to make Water flow and torrents gush. But could he also provide bread or offer meat to all?"[5]

You weary the Lord with your words. But you ask: In what way do we weary Him? Well, it is when you say: The Lord looks favorably on those who do evil, he approves of that sort of people. Or again: Where then is the God who enforces justice?[6]

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The beginning of sin and the fall of man was a lie of the tempter which led to Doubt of the word of God, of his Goodwill and his faithfulness.[7]

The Faith of Mary, which no Doubt alters.[8]

Even confronted with the reality of the resurrected Jesus resurrected, the Disciples still Doubt.[9]
