Lake of Tiberias, Sea of Galilee
Epicenter of many episodes of Jesus’ apostleship.
Description
The expressions "Sea of Galilee"; "lake of Gennesaret Plain" or even "lake of Tiberias" are used repeatedly by Maria Valtorta herself in her descriptions. But in the dialogues, the characters more naturally use the expression "Sea of Galilee" to refer to the Sea of Tiberias. This is the case for Anne[1]; Mary[2]; Jesus[3]; Peter[4]; or John[5], etc. One can detect a clue to the authenticity of the seer’s account, since in Hebrew the word « jam » refers indifferently to any body of water, lake or sea.
Key Events
Recall of some gospel episodes on the lake:
- Calling of the first four Disciples and the miraculous catch of fish[6].
- Jesus calms the storm[7].
- Jesus walks on the waters[8].

Learn more about this place
Named Sea of Tiberias by the Romans (in honor of Tiberius), the lake was better known as the Sea of Galilee in Jesus’ Palestine. Located more than 200 m below the Mediterranean Sea level, this important freshwater reservoir (21 km long and 12 km wide) has depths reaching 45 m in places. The rabbis wrote about it: “Even if God created seven seas, he made this one the place of His own enchantment.”
