Grandfather of Marjiam
He is an unhappy peasant who became a slave of Doras (like most of his servants) through his dishonest and subtle schemes.[1] He hides his grandson Marziam (Jabez, son of John and his daughter) in the woods to prevent him from being driven away or suffering the same fate as himself. The child is indeed an orphan, his parents having just died in a landslide. Then he entrusts his grandson to Jesus.[2]
After the transfer of Doras’s peasants to GioCana, and benefiting from the timid clemency of the latter towards the power of Jesus, he goes with the other peasants to Jerusalem at the 2nd Passover. He is thus able to attend the Banquet given by Lazarus. He experiences the joy of seeing his grandson grow in age, strength, and wisdom.[3]

A peaceful death of the righteous
After being reassured about his eternal Salvation, and forgiven of his sins[4], he dies in the arms of Jesus:"One falls asleep in Peace, thanks to You... Thank you, Lord..."He is surrounded by the affection of Marziam, who was saving to redeem him from servitude, through sacrifices and extra labor. In his last moments, Jesus wraps him in his arm, lifts him, and prays (the psalms). Then he says to him:
"Go in Peace, Soul righteous one!"[5]
