"The rough massif of Jiphthahel dominates to the north concealing the view. But where the steep slopes of this mountainous group begin, and they appear almost sheer to the caravan track running from Ptolemais towards Sephoris and Nazareth, there are many caves among the rocky blocks protruding from the mountain, hanging over the abyss, and placed like roofs and supports to the caverns."[1]The town of Jiphthahel itself is an eagle's nest on the northern summit of a solitary peak. Surrounded to the south, west, and east by steep slopes, so that one would have to go all around the mountain if it were not for a very steep shortcut in the valley at the foot of the highest mountain.
The town is perched on a slope so steep that it gives the impression it will slide into the valley with its houses.
A pistachio forest is very close by.[2]
Notable facts
In the cliffs of the southern part, Jesus finds refuge in a cave arranged by man's hand. There he lives a moving dialogue with his Father for the redemption of Judas.[3]
