Phara of Bozrah
Son of Ptolemy. He is an innkeeper from Bozrah, a somewhat remote village in Auranitis. He is illiterate, but honest. Because it is not his business, he informs Jesus of one of the plots being hatched against him.
This is an opportunity for Jesus to preach on the theme that John will take up in his prologue: "The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not received it."[1]
His name
Name probably of Philistine or Arabic origin.
