"The Beautiful One" of Corozaïn (Chorazain)
"The first convert" of Andrew the Apostle.[1]
Woman lighthearted in her youth, hence her nickname. "Adultery, seventy times seven, with everyone who called themselves 'man' and had money. Murder, seventy times seventy, from her illegitimate births; prostituted by vice and not by necessity." [2]
She becomes leprous in her mature age (she must be about 50 or 60 years old). Evangelized by Andrew the Apostle on the shores of the lake where she had taken refuge, she is healed by Jesus.
Remarkable points
The Woman asks for the healing of the Soul:"Purify me, Lord, but the Soul before the flesh, For I am thrice unclean, and if you must give me one Purification, here, I ask you for it for my sinful Soul. Before I heard your words that he (Andrew the Apostle) repeated to me, I said: Heal to return among the men. Now that I know, I say: Heal to have life everlasting."[3]
Jesus grants her the healing of the Soul, but, like Naaman[4], when she goes to bathe as instructed, it is the body as well that is healed.[5]
The healing causes a great stir and Jesus must justify his pity towards the sinner:"Oh! I understand you, Women betrayed! I understand your jubilation when you were told: ‘The flesh of the Beautiful One is more foul-smelling and more rotten than that of a carcass.’ But I say to you: learn to forgive. God executed your revenges, and then again God pardoned. Forgive yourselves as well. I have forgiven her in your name, because I know that you are good, Women of Bethsaida..."[6]
