Circumcision

Circumcision is a rite that consists of removing the foreskin of every male belonging to the people of Israel, as a sign of the Covenant between God and this people.

In "The Gospel as It Was Revealed to Me"

  • The Circumcision of John the Baptist.[1]
  • A feast of the Circumcision.[2]
  • It is my regeneration... It is my... my true Circumcision, that one... You circumcised my Heart by your love (Matthew, at his conversion).[3]
  • The true Circumcision will come and it will be exercised on the Heart of men and it will carry away the strangling water of the triple concupiscence.[4]
  • Soon the old Circumcision will no longer have much importance. A new one, which will be truer, and on a nobler part will come to replace it. But as long as the first lasts and you, by faithfulness to the Lord, impose it on the male who was born of you, or whom you have adopted, do not be ashamed to have done it on the flesh of another race. The flesh belongs to the tomb, the Soul belongs to God. One circumcises the flesh, being unable to circumcise what is spiritual.[5]
  • Take my blood. Put it not on dead stones, but on your dead Heart. This is the new Circumcision. And I circumcise myself for the whole world.[6]
  • My wail and my groan, the first step and the last, the wound of Circumcision and that of consummation, will have been in vain if in you, if in men, there is not the goodwill to redeem and sanctify themselves.[7]
  • But I, who felt like dying seeing drops of your blood at Circumcision — indeed Joseph had to support me because I was trembling like someone who is dying.[8]
  • It will be through Jesus-Christ and by Grace through Jesus-Christ that men present and to come will be able to possess Heaven and the Yes of God, the last end of man. Until then the most just righteous, good as circumcised as sons of the chosen people, could not reach this goal. Their Virtues were taken into consideration by God, their places prepared in Heaven, but Heaven was closed to them and the presence of God was refused to them.[9]

In Fundamental Christian Texts

In the Bible

  • "In eight days, every male among you shall be circumcised, both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your race.".[11]

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church

  • Among the liturgical signs of the Old Covenant can be named Circumcision, anointing and consecration of kings and priests, the laying on of hands, sacrifices, and especially the Passover. The Church sees in these signs a prefiguration of the Sacraments of the New Covenant.[12]
