Cleopas, son of Cleopas

    From Wiki Maria Valtorta
Appearance of Christ to the pilgrims of Emmaus by Laurent de La Hyre

One of the pilgrims of Emmaus, Clopas Luke 24:18.

He is one of the two sons of the Leader of the synagogue of Emmaus on the Mountain. He bears the name of his father.

He is married and is in his forties.[1]

Before following Jesus, he was a disciple of the Baptist.

He owns nothing but vineyards. His way of speaking about them to other Disciples forms a magnificent parable about the work of the Souls that Jesus elevates.[2]

On Easter Sunday, he walks with his co-father, Simon, to join Emmaus on the Mountain when Jesus appears to them.[3][4]

    His name

Clopas would come from a contracted form of Cleopatros.

Excerpts from the Dictionary of Gospel Characters, Clopas Maria Valtorta (Mgr René Laurentin, François-Michel Debroise, Jean-François Lavère, Éditions Salvator, 2012):
Saint Clopas of Emmaus is celebrated by the Church on September 25.

Theodosius (6th century) in his Guide to the Holy Land, and Adon of Vienne (circa 860) in his Martyrologist, report that Clopas was massacred in the very house where he had received Jesus at his table. This is said to have occurred during the first persecutions Against Christians (around 44 AD).[5]

Clopas was Anne-Catherine Emmerich (19th century) married. This statement therefore confirms Maria Valtorta. His wife later joined the women of the Christian community.[6].
