Gentle, Gentleness

From Wiki Maria Valtorta

Gentleness is one of the Virtues that makes Blessed, Salt of the sermon on the mount. It opposes hardness and Violence.

In "The Gospel as it was revealed to me"

  • Blessed are the gentle, for they will inherit the earth.[1]
  • The gentleness of Mary in response to her pain of seeing her son Jesus-Christ rejected.[2]
  • (...) But meanwhile, to resist, come to Me you who are weary and tired, you, Apostles, and with you all the men who seek God, who weep because of the pain they meet on the earth, who are exhausted in solitude and I will restore you. Take My yoke upon you. It is not a burden. It is a support. Embrace My Doctrine as though it were a beloved bride. Imitate your Master who does not only bless it, but does what it teaches.

Learn from Me who am gentle and humble of Heart. You will find the rest of your Souls because gentleness and humility bring the kingdom on earth and in the Heavens. I have already told you that the true conquerors among men are those who conquer it by love, and love is always gentle and humble. I would never give you anything to do beyond your strength, because I love you and I want you with Me in my Kingdom. So take My insignia and My uniform, and strive to be like Me and as My Doctrine teaches you. Do not be afraid, because My yoke is gentle and its weight is light, while infinitely powerful is the glory you will have if you are faithful. Infinite and eternal...[3]
  • Be humble. You cannot reproach your Master for not being so. I give you the example. Act as I act. Be humble, gentle, patient. That is how one conquers the world, not by Violence and force.[4]

The Notebooks of 1943

  • Catechesis of June 23: The gentleness of Mary's smile : "(...) there is no comparison apt to express the gentleness of Mary's smile. Royal, holy, chaste, loving, sad, inviting, compassionate... These are words that say one and should say a thousand to approach what this virginal, motherly, heavenly smile is."[5]
  • Catechesis of June 27 : The human eye cannot fix the sun, while it can look at the moon. The eye of the Soul cannot fix the perfection of God as it is. But it can look at the perfection of Mary. (...) She is the Mother. What gentleness for the children to look at the mother! I gave her to you for this, so that you may have a gentle Majesty whose splendor delights you, but without dazzling you.[6]

In fundamental Christian texts

In the Bible

  • A kind answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.[7]
  • The Lord has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the gentle. The Lord has uprooted the proud and planted the humble in their place. (Sirach 10:14)
