Levi the synagogue leader of Nazareth
Leader of the synagogue, hostile to Jesus. He envisions him as king of Israel in the human sense of the term, like other inhabitants of Nazareth: Simeon, Matthias, Mathias, Benjamin, and Jacob. This vision leads them to participate in the first betrayal of Judas, who thus finds a favorable ground with them.[1]
Levi will repent later: meeting Jesus later in Jerusalem, he appears visibly embarrassed to greet Him respectfully after having caused Him so much obstacle.[2]
