Elisha, the leper of Engedi
This son of Abraham, the synagogue leader of Engedi becomes leprous: a horrible specter, a skeleton, half naked, ravaged by leprosy. His mother, Colombe, became Confessiongle and sank into senility under the weight of pain. She will be healed by Jesus.[1]
When Jesus leaves Engedi, his father Abraham pleads with him to heal Elisha:"...You have already healed my wife... but would you not have mercy on the fruit of her womb? ... A son for the mother! Give a son to the mother, You, the perfect Son of the Mother of all Grace! In the name of your Mother, have mercy on me, on us!..."Jesus comforts him:
"Do not weep anymore! Let us go find your Elisha. Your faith, your righteousness, your hope, deserve this and more. Do not weep, oh father! And let us not delay any longer to deliver a creature from horror."[2]After healing Elisha, Jesus asks him:
"...preach the Lord for it is to Him that you belong. Remember that God loved you because you were a good Israelite and a good son. Have a wife and children and raise them for the Lord (...). Bless them God and be Happy!"[3]
Apostolic journey
Elisha, after the Passion of the Lord, will obey his invitation to preach:"Allow me to leave, father, for I am leaving all Good to preach the Lord. I will go to Capernaum in search of John, and I will join the Disciples faithful."[4]On Mount Tabor, after the resurrection of Jesus, Elisha is no longer skeletal:
"He is now a robust man in the prime of life"[5].Following the death of his father in Jesus' very arms, he will have no further ties. Jesus will join him to the group of the seventy-two Disciples saying to them:
"Here is a new companion. Let him be dear to you because I have drawn him from his tomb so that he may serve me."[6]
Elisha is present at one of the very first Christian gatherings, in the days immediately following Pentecost. Peter preaches the Word there and celebrates the Eucharist.[7]
