John the Scribe
Not to be confused with John of Capernaum, the disciple.
Scribe[1] who comes to ask Jesus to heal his son. Jesus heals the little child[2], but also unmasks the scribe’s intentions:
- "Coming to You is dangerous because You are hated. Do you not know that Rome watches You and that the Temple hates You?"He witnesses the first multiplication of the loaves by distributing them as well.[3] He is found involved in the plot that Chuza concocts to crown Jesus[4], then as a witness of the resurrection of Lazarus[5], where he is among those favorable to Jesus.- "Why do you tempt me, man? Your words are traps to carry my answers to Rome and the Temple. I did not set a trap by healing your son..." - "I see that you truly see the Hearts of men. Forgive..."
- "You, scribe, be just, and in the future do not corrupt as you were corrupted. When the world will put pressure on you, look at the living Grace that is your son, saved from death, and be grateful to God."
Apostolic journey[edit | edit source]
"You are sincere, and for that you deserve to understand God who is never lie. But your convictions are not yet dead. It is I who tell you. It is like bindweed that has been burned. On the surface it seems destroyed and in truth, it has suffered a harsh assault that weakened it. But the roots are alive, the soil nourishes them, the dew invites them to put forth new stems and these new leaves. One must watch so that this does not happen, or you will again be invaded by bindweed. Israel is tough to die!"Either he, or his namesake (John of Capernaum) was among the Disciples who remained faithful during the great schism of the discourse on the "Bread of Life".[6]
His name[edit | edit source]
Yohanân means "the Eternal has done Grace, has been favorable." Historical reference: a fairly common first name among characters of the Old Testament without one standing out particularly.
Where is he mentioned in the work?[edit | edit source]

Notes and references[edit | edit source]
- ↑ There are two scribes named John (EMV 464) in Jesus' entourage. One is seen at the multiplication of the loaves, this one, and the other, John of Capernaum, is the one who fed the people at the descent from the Mount of Beatitudes (EMV 548). Therefore, there might be confusions between the two biographies.
